I came across an article in a local newspaper about banning hand-held cell phones while driving. I will post more about this article and my opinions about it later, BUT, for the moment, why don't you go ahead and leave your comments here for everyone to read. Try to be nice!
There is a poll in the right column for you to leave your opinion in an easy to gauge format. Please feel free to explain your answer/s in a comment. And check back often to see how your opinion compares to others'. You can mark multiple answers on the poll so mark all that apply to you.

Many jurisdictions already ban the use of cell phones unless equipped with a "hands-free" device. In theory, this a great idea, because driving is serious business and requires the attention and focus of the person behind the wheel; the problem is one of enforcement. Do we have enough police officers with enough time to pull over drivers using a phone? What about the ones eating, reading, shaving, putting on make-up, changing clothes, changing diapers, spanking children, etc? (Yes, I've every one of these over the years.)
It's often been said that you cannot legislate good sense. This is merely one more example of government trying to do it anyway.
I couldn't agree with you more Nicky!!! If you start banning cell phones what's next... eating, putting on make-up, drinking water... it just doesn't make sense. I do think it is a good idea because yes, driving is serious business that requires absolute attention, but I just can't see how you could enforce it. But... I do have to say that it really does bother me when I see people talking on their phones while driving. Especially when it is clear that they are concentrating more on whoever it is they are talking to then on the road. It especially BUGS me when I see people texting while driving... SCARY!!! In fact I will no longer be a passenger in my sisters vehicle because she is shifting gears, texting and ATTEMPTING to drive! WAY too scary!!!
I think they should absolutely ban cell phones while driving for everyone but me. I can talk and drive no problem! Isn't that just about everyone's attitude? I almost never talk on the phone and drive anymore as we only have coverage now when we get into the city and usually my wife is with me doing the talking. But when I was driving delivery van in Edmonton I was often on the phone for work related reasons. And I had a couple close calls. Not sure it was because of the phone but it happened when I was on the phone. It is definitely much easier to lose concentration. But no way am I giving up my coffee when driving!!!! Is there a difference? I'm not sure eating/drinking takes as much concentration as carrying on a conversation. The other side of it all is I struggle with a lot of government intervention. In Ontario now they have banned adults from smoking in vehicles which are carrying minors. First seatbelts, now smoking and cell phones and they are even talking about making snow tires mandatory! I can see laws that affect other peoples' safety, but I'm not sure that only affect your own safety.
Well I'm kind of rambling so I'll quit. I didn't do the survey because I didn't find an answer that fit me.
